CAMILA HIGUERA

Times Are Changing
By Camila Higuera
Camila explores how newspapers shape our collective narrative—defining norms in opinion, style, science, and authority—especially for the social elite and those still reading print. She argues that this narrative must evolve.
To reimagine it, she overlays the full spectrum of colored tissue paper bringing light directly across the printed newspaper, transforming it.
Behind this layered surface is a fixed backdrop in deep red, purple, and brown—a a shout out for transformation, a call to rethink misdirected discourse.
Camila works with tissue paper, a material with deep roots in ceremonial, artistic, and liturgical traditions in China since at least the Eastern Han Dynasty (ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE); The fragility and sheer delicacy of tissue paper lend her work both material and symbolic resonance.

Her installation in stoa—an open, public covered colonnade of ancient Greek agoras, where merchants, philosophers, and citizens gathered in dialogue, sheltered yet exposed to the wind; the stoa shaped civic life through exchange and exposure to ideas.
In these works, wind and light becomes co‑authors as activators of the pieces. Camila’s installation proposes a new narrative for healing the times and life we are living now.
